This week brings us to the one year mark of deputation. It has been so exciting to reflect on how God has proved Himself faithful through the last year. I can recall being very nervous about what the future would hold as Lindsey and I made the decision to quit my full-time job with benefits and not renew a lease on our apartment with only $550 per month of promised support. I remember the Lord using my life verse, Matthew 6:33, to confirm that, although we couldn't see how He would provide, He … [Read more...] about A Full Year of God’s Provision on Deputation!
America: The Misunderstood Mission-field? (Part 2)
In my last post I discussed that one of the reasons we fail to see the United States as a legitimate mission field is that so many believers in this country are not aware of the needs that exist and where those needs exist and we cannot pray for laborers to reach a harvest field that we don't know exists. If you missed the previous post I encourage you to read it here. The first reason I gave for our not seeing the US as a legitimate mission field is our ignorance of the need. The second … [Read more...] about America: The Misunderstood Mission-field? (Part 2)
EXCITING ANNOUNCEMENT!
I apologize for taking so long to get this latest update out. We were recently in Staten Island, NYC, had our van broken into and our computer as well as some other items stolen. As the result of the Lord’s provision and the giving heart of His people we have been able to recoup the items that we most necessary to our ministry. So, we praise the Lord for how He unexpectedly provided a new computer and tablet for us! An additional blessing was that I had just backed up all of our pictures and … [Read more...] about EXCITING ANNOUNCEMENT!
America: The Missed Mission Field? (Part 1)
As a missionary family on deputation, one of our goals is to help people see the need of the field to which God has called us. It is always exciting to see others catch a glimpse of the vision we have for the field to which God has called us. People are often surprised at the great need of our field. The fact that approximately 4,475,000 (assuming that each of the 25 independent Baptist churches has an effective reach of 10,000 people) of the 4.59 million people in the city to which the Lord has … [Read more...] about America: The Missed Mission Field? Focus on the Field: Jamaica Plain
This month for our Focus on the Field update, we are featuring one of Boston’s inner-city neighborhoods — Jamaica Plain. Jamaica Plain or JP was annexed into Boston in 1874. JP is known for its beautiful parks including: Jamaica Pond, the Arnold Arboretum, and portions of Franklin Park (Boston’s largest park). There are 3.3 sq. mi. of housing space (excluding public property and parks) in Jamaica Plain and according to the 2010 U.S. Census there were 37,468 people living in JP and not a single … [Read more...] about Focus on the Field: Jamaica Plain
Deputation: not really THAT scary
Going into deputation, I was really, really nervous. I'm sure you've heard the deputation horror stories like I have, and some of those scared me to death. You know, the nasty places you'll have to stay, the weird food people will feed you, how rude pastors can be, how you'll just barely scrape by with just enough gas to get to your next meeting. When we began deputation, I fully expected to have all kinds of terrible experiences, and I was going to just have to get through it and try to laugh … [Read more...] about Deputation: not really THAT scary
